Overview

THEMED is a custom, non-competitive 60-card Magic: The Gathering format developed through the reverse-engineering of official introductory starter decks. The project aims to establish a highly balanced, self-regulating tabletop environment by imposing a strict mathematical framework on deck construction. Each deck must feature exactly two colors and adhere to a rigid structural composition: 26 lands (including a specific ratio of basics to common non-basics), 20 commons in precise copy distributions (one 3-of, five 2-ofs, and seven 1-ofs), and entirely singleton uncommon (9), rare (4), and mythic (1) slots, with a maximum allowance of five legendary cards per deck. By relying on strict structural limitations rather than a banlist or set rotation, the format naturally neutralizes overly consistent combo engines and high-power staples. This architectural approach shifts the focus of deckbuilding toward mechanical synergy, consistent thematic integration, and resource management, fostering a stable, highly interactive gameplay ecosystem that revitalizes underutilized cards.
