Overview

Circle in a Cube is a challenging puzzle game where players must guide a sphere out of a complex box using a precise sequence of moves. The scoring system rewards efficiency, encouraging players to find the shortest path with the fewest possible rotations. To keep the experience fresh and increasingly difficult, new gameplay mechanics are introduced at regular intervals, layering complexity onto the core loop.

Overview

The Design Challenge

The most significant hurdle was the design and visualization of the three-dimensional labyrinths. Creating a 3D space that players could navigate intuitively while maintaining a high level of puzzle difficulty required intense abstraction. Predicting and balancing the potential movement paths of the sphere across multiple axes was a complex spatial reasoning task for the entire design team.

Post-Mortem

Reflecting on the development, if I were to approach this concept again, I would likely pivot to a 2D perspective. While 3D provided a unique aesthetic and challenge, a 2D implementation would have allowed for much greater scalability and faster iteration on level design. This shift would have enabled us to implement even more intricate mechanics without the overhead of 3D spatial management.
